Club Notes – 19th March 2017

March 20th, 2017 | News

The season really is kicking in to gear, with the senior men looking forward to their division 3 campaign under new manager Donnan Ritchie. We are delighted to also be re-introducing our reserve side this year, with talk of some of our most experienced players returning to join the younger generation . Our senior ladies’ preparations are also gathering pace, with manager Brian Jennings keen to build on the progress made last year. Our minor team will be looking forward to their campaign with 4 players, Jamie Morgan , Daniel Napier, Jack Hazard and Callum Fitzsimons, being heavily involved with Down minors and u17s this year. There will also be several u16s in this minor squad as well, and no doubt senior team management will be keeping a watchful eye to see if any future senior players emerge.

The younger teams in the club will also busy over the next few weeks as the busiest period of the GAA calendar is upon us. The U14 girls took to the field at Clonduff last Saturday for the county feile. Played in terrible weather conditions, the girls gave a great account of themselves with good performances in all games, including a battling effort against eventual winners Carryduff. See team photo below.

Fixtures are available for many of the teams – see the club website ( (click on Fixtures) for more information). The u14 boys get the league campaigns up and running next Monday night (Mar 27th) with a home match against Drumaness. Throw is at 6.30pm with players asked to be at the pitch for 5.50pm. Best of luck to the lads attending the U14 trials over the next few weekends also. Later next week, on Thursday, the U16 boys make the short trip to Loughinisland for their opener (throw-in at 6.45pm). The senior men will begin their Division 3 pursuit with a home game v Tullylish on Fri, April 7th. Reserves visit Ardglass for their opener on April 2nd (Sunday week).

Importantly at this time of year , we get our pitch grounds and clubrooms in order for the year ahead , and anyone who can help with this over the next two saturdays is welcome to join in.

McCartans sports have some really good deals on Saul club gear at the minute so why not pop in and take a look.
